Dear Joseph,
We did it! Thanks to the tireless efforts of you and other NORD Rare Action Network advocates, we've secured a victory for people living with rare diseases and their families! On June 3rd, President Biden signed into law the bipartisan debt ceiling deal which protects access to affordable health care through Medicaid without imposing work requirements. Thank you to every advocate who sent messages to Congress and President Biden and shared NORD's action alert with friends and family - together, we helped protect access to essential, affordable health care through Medicaid for millions of Americans affected by rare diseases.
Medicaid plays a significant role in supporting the rare disease community, as many individuals with rare diseases rely on Medicaid for primary or supplemental health coverage. If enacted nationwide, Medicaid work requirements would have jeopardized health care coverage for millions of patients. To read more about what the debt ceiling deal means for the rare disease community, read this statement from NORD President and CEO Peter L. Saltonstall.
