![]() Cleveland Clinic Launches First-Of-Its-Kind Brain Disease Study
The Cleveland Clinic, a Healthcare Leadership Council member, has launched the largest clinical study ever for brain disease. The study will collect data from up to 200,000 neurologically healthy adults over a 20-year period to identify brain disease biomarkers and targets that can be utilized to prevent and cure neurological disorders.
The initial phase of the study will enroll 10,000 volunteers over the first five years who will be examined and thoroughly investigated. Participants will undergo yearly assessments including neurological examination, bloodwork, eye retina scans, brain MRIs, EEG and sleep studies, and other cognitive function tests.
Andre Machado, M.D., Ph.D, chair of the Cleveland Clinic's Neurological Institute said, "Disrupting neurological diseases is one of the greatest challenges of our time and motivates our clinicians and scientists every day. By launching a study of this magnitude, we have the potential to discover causes of neurological disorders and what happens before symptoms become obvious - the silent phase. Our hope is to change the course of neurodegeneration, with the long-term goal of curing diseases in their earliest stages, years before symptoms are ever seen."
![]() CVS Health-Uber Collaboration Will Advance Health Equity
CVS Health is collaborating with Uber Health, Uber's healthcare arm, to provide critical transportation support at no cost to people who need access to medical care, work or educational programs.
The partnership is part of CVS Health's new initiative, Health Zones, which provides concentrated local investments designed to reduce health disparities and advance health equity in high risk communities. The objective is to provide underserved communities with quality housing, economic support, and educational training opportunities based on the unique needs of the community. Aetna, a CVS Health company, is a member of the Healthcare Leadership Council.
Eileen Howard Boone, CVS Health's Senior Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility & Philanthropy and Chief Sustainability Officer, said, "With the Uber Health platform, we'll provide critical transportation to people within communities who need it most, giving them access to healthcare services so they can live healthier lives and to jobs and educational programs that can help them achieve their full potential." The program is beginning in Atlanta, Columbus, OH, and Hartford, CT, with plans to add additional cities later this year.
