A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear Colleague:
Yesterday I spoke with senior leaders in the Department of Education (ED) regarding the COE Board recommendations on re-negotiation of 2019-20 objectives.
The ED Team understands the importance of reducing numbers served and re-negotiating objectives considering the CARES Act flexibilities and COVID-19. We anticipate hearing from ED regarding how they will move forward by early next week. The COE Board recommendations are available here.
Sincerely,
Maureen Hoyler President Council for Opportunity in Education

IN THE NEWS
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION UPDATES Tentative Open and Due Dates for the 2019-2020 Annual Performance Reports Need help? See above. COE is hosting an APR webinar for each TRIO Program over the next few days.
2020-2021 EOC and Talent Search Applications - Draft Notice for Comments
The Department of Education re-published its draft notice for comments on the Talent Search and EOC application packages that were utilized in the 2015-16 competition (click here for Talent Search draft and click here for EOC draft). As the Department of Education followed the same procedure in the 2019-20 Student Support Services competition, we believe the agency has re-issued this notice in order to eliminate the need to publish a draft for the upcoming 2020-21 competitions. This means:
COE continues to expect the Talent Search application due date to be in early December or the end of January with the EOC application due date to be approximately a month after.
Virtual proposal writing workshops for COE Institutional Members will take place October 28-30 and again when the final RFP is released.
Please consider attending the upcoming workshop and have a proposal draft critiqued. COE staff know of very few institutions that had proposals critiqued in the Student Support Services competition whose funding was not continued. Register for the October proposal writing workshop here. If you have any questions, contact Angelica Vialpando via email at angelica.vialpando@coenet.org.
