Boost SNAP benefits during pandemic

While Congress has taken some steps to bolster the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, aka food stamps), during this crisis, more action is needed. This includes:

  • Boosting SNAP maximum benefits by 15 percent,
  • Increasing the minimum SNAP benefit from $16 to $30, and
  • Suspending all SNAP administrative rules that would terminate or weaken benefits.

We're asking all of our partners to send a message to your Congressional representative to support these changes. Food Research & Action Center provides more info.

New guide helps communities feed kids during outbreak closures

Schools and nonprofits should consult with the NJ Department of Agriculture prior to serving meals to ensure meals are eligible for reimbursements. But this guide answers common questions about new federal rules during this crisis.

Weigh in on summer meals rule change

Summer is just around the corner. Hopefully, parks, playgrounds and pools will be open and serving meals to kids. The USDA has issued a proposed rule that would simplify Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) requirements, including streamlining monitoring and application requirements for experienced sponsors. The proposed rule also includes a few provisions that could be strengthened. Use Food Research & Action Center's online platform to tell USDA that you support these changes to close the summer nutrition gap for low-income children in your community.
