![]() Epic Provides Tools to Help Providers Access COVID-19 Treatments
As the Biden Administration works to double the number of pharmacies carrying COVID-19 treatments as part of its Test to Treat initiative, Epic - a Healthcare Leadership Council member - is deploying tools that enable healthcare providers to determine which pharmacies have treatments in stock and guide patients to those pharmacies for more timely and effective care.
Epic's enhancements for providers include: (1) Treatment information at a glance, through which providers can narrow pharmacy searches to only those that have received COVID-19 treatments from the Department of Health and Human Services and have recently reported having a stock of those treatments; (2) Notifications to providers before they send a prescription for a COVID-19 treatment that the pharmacy can't fill the order; and (3) Accessibility for providers and patients to important COVID-19 treatment information on Epic and MyChart.
Dr. Jackie Gerhart, Epic vice president of clinical informatics, said, "This initiative ensures that ordering providers across the nation have access to accurate and timely information about the location and availability of these treatments. As testing and treatment strategies continue to evolve, the rapid incorporation and dissemination of information at the point of care will continue to be a critical part of the fight against COVID-19."
![]() Vizient Fights Supply Chain Disruptions with Made in the U.S.A. Initiative
In a turbulent world affected by conflicts and COVID-19, supply chain disruptions are a present-day reality. Vizient, a Healthcare Leadership Council member, is providing a mechanism to mitigate against international supply disruptions through the launch of its Made in the U.S.A. program to improve visibility of domestic manufacturing of healthcare products.
The program will collect data across all product categories for manufacturing that is completed in the United States with an initial focus on critical categories, such as personal protective equipment. Vizient members will be able to quickly identify products made domestically within the Vizient catalog, and eligible suppliers will receive new opportunities to showcase their domestically manufactured products.
Cristina Indiveri, Vizient associate vice president for strategic programs and contract services, said, "Vizient members have been asking for a way to identify domestic products as they strategize short term supply solutions and emerge stronger than before the global pandemic. Domestic manufacturing provides back-up sources and diversified product availability, bolstering provider confidence in their supply chains."
