![]() Premier, Inc. Addressing Healthcare Exam Glove Shortage
Hospitals throughout the country are facing shortages of exam gloves as a result of global raw material scarcity, port closures and delays, and increased glove usage as a result of escalating hospitalization rates and ongoing vaccination efforts. To address this problem, Premier, Inc., a Healthcare Leadership Council member, has joined forces with Honeywell to expand domestic production of nitrile exam gloves with a plan to produce at least 750 million in the first year of the collaboration.
Michael J. Alkire, president and CEO of Premier, Inc., said "Guided by data to prioritize greatest-need product at scale, our collaboration with Honeywell is another step forward in Premier's steadfast commitment to protect healthcare providers from shortages, drive supply chain innovation and increase domestic manufacturing of critical products.
The Premier-Honeywell collaboration is expanded to expand access to domestically manufactured exam gloves for U.S. hospitals, clinics and other healthcare providers.
![]() SCAN Group Initiative Will Deliver "Street Medicine" to California's Homeless
With the number of homeless individuals in California increasing significantly, SCAN Group is launching a new initiative, Healthcare in Action, that will provide healthcare and other essential services to individuals in the state who are experiencing homelessness. SCAN Group is the parent organization of SCAN Health Plan, one of the nation's largest not-for-profit Medicare Advantage plans and a Healthcare Leadership Council member.
The initiative will focus on providing "street medicine" to older adults, one of the fastest growing segments of the homeless population. Doctors, physician assistants, nurse practitioners will join with teams of social workers, community health workers, substance use counselors and others to provide healthcare services and connect homeless individuals with community resources. A key focus will be to help these individuals receive housing.
Dr. Sachin Jain, president and CEO of SCAN Group and SCAN Health Plan said, "Homelessness among older adults is a healthcare tragedy unfolding on the streets of our communities every night. For too long, homelessness has been defined as a housing issue alone. Often times, healthcare problems cause homelessness and homelessness can exacerbate healthcare problems and make it harder for people to get back on their feet. We are making a major commitment to address the healthcare causes and effects of homelessness."
