Looking for ways to connect with the new Congress? We've got tools you can use today!
On Thursday, January 3 the 116th Congress was officially sworn-in to office. As noted in AAM's "What the Midterm Elections Mean for Museums," the November 2018 elections ushered in a huge new wave of legislators - now facing an extensive list of policy issues.
Even as the partial government shutdown persists, it's important to note that IMLS is funded for FY 2019 and continues its operations. Congress is funded and fully operational, including staff. New and returning legislators need to hear from the museums and museum professionals they represent early and often about the work of museums, and the positive impact that federal support of museums has in the communities they represent.
Two Ways to Connect with Your Legislators in the New Congress
Identify your elected officials and use our template to introduce your museum to them.
Many offices are getting their email and scheduling systems in place and are anxious to hear from the community organizations they represent. This is a critical and valuable time to let your federal legislators know about the work you are doing in the community and the ways you can be a resource to them. Start with our template and personalize to share additional information about your work or your museum. It takes just a few clicks to make that first important contact.
Plan to Attend Museums Advocacy Day 2019!
One of the best ways to meet with the offices of new and returning legislators is to participate in Museums Advocacy Day 2019, which offers a unique opportunity to join forces with fellow advocates and make your voice heard with your legislators, in meetings scheduled by AAM.
With two weeks left to register by the January 25 deadline, we're excited to see museum advocates from over 30 states and all types of museums registered. But we've still got a space for you.
Register Today and Book Your Room at the Washington Plaza Hotel
(Alliance members and members of Co-convenor, Leader and Partner organizations register at the AAM Member Rate!)
Museums Advocacy Day is inspiring, energizing and practical. Unite with others from the museum field as one voice to reaffirm our value, collective contributions, and aspirations and get the information and insights you need to be an effective advocate for museums.
We hope to see you there!
